Living a Beach Lifestyle in Carrabelle, Florida

Carrabelle is a small town in the Gulf Coast of the Florida panhandle.  The population is about 1300.  Active adults 55+ are moving to this area west of Tallahassee because of its mild climate, outstanding recreation opportunities, and slower pace than in much of Florida.

Where to Live
There is one active development in Carrabelle area but it appears to have failed. It might resurface under another developer. Home prices have been erratic in 2007-8, but tend to be in the $100's.

There are some nice neighborhoods on the water or along the coast highway.  In early 2023, the median home value was $258,866, which is a 21.6% increase from a year earlier, according to Zillow.com

Coastal lifestyle. Outstanding recreation opportunities - beaches and parks.  World's smallest police station (phone booth sized).  Beautiful harbor.

Small town 50 miles from closest city - Tallahassee.

Carrabelle is located in the panhandle of Florida (northwest) near East Point.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

The local seafood, especially oysters, are very good and available in the town's seafood restaurants.  Carrabelle has a nice library.

Crime

The crime rate is well below average in Carrabelle.

Medical Facilities

George Weems Memorial Hospital is 27 miles away in Apalachicola.

Transportation

Tallahassee Regional Airport is 43 miles away.  This airport has great service through Delta and is extremely convenient, if not inexpensive. Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is also in the area and features discount carrier SouthWest Airlines.
