In May and June graduating seniors come here by the thousands to celebrate their release from school. In 2001 it was designated an All-America City.
The town offers 11 miles of sandy beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, stretching all the way to Delaware. There is a long boardwalk lined with amusement parks and commercial establishments. Golf has become very important here with more than a dozen golf clubs in the area. There are hotels, motels, homes, and condominiums by the thousands. One of the attractions for active adults 55+ is the ability to live near Maryland's beaches. The average age of the year round residents is 47+, reflecting its popularity as a retirement community. There are many high rise condos on the beach and active adult communities elsewhere. Many of the latter are golf-oriented.
Zillow reports the average home price in early 2023 was $419,135. These prices can be somewhat misleading as prices will vary dramatically by location and type of unit.
What Is Special about Ocean City town
Ocean City is home to world famous Maryland beaches and is considered the "White Marlin Capital of the World". It also boasts a tennis center, Eagle's Landing Golf Course which is rated in Top 75 Public Courses and several golf clubs, along with more than a dozen city parks with all types of facilities. What Is Not Special about Ocean City town
Summer crowds and senior week (which happens each each year, when thousands of graduating high school seniors visit Ocean City to celebrate). You have to want to live in a popular resort town if you choose to live near the beach. The city’s official crime rate is quite high, but this is mostly property crime associated with beach visitors.

Ocean City is located on a barrier spit. The Inlet was formed by a 1933 hurricane and separates Ocean City from Assateague Island. The inlet eventually helped make Ocean City a famous fishing port. The sands and land keep shifting; numerous beach erosion projects have attempted to protect existing buildings from the relentless ocean.

Cultural life is very low key. There are frequent concerts on the Beach during the summer. The Ocean City Art League has its home at Little Salisbury Park. Art's Alive, Ocean City's Annual Fine Art Show, is an annual event.
