Diverse, warm, and bright DeLand is a small and pleasant college community. DeLand is a small town just west of Daytona Beach in North Florida. It is the home of Stetson University, named after its early benefactor, the founder of the famous hat company. Stetson University was the first private college to be established in Florida. Although the population is about 24,000, DeLand is part of the Daytona metro which has a large population. It is the county seat of Volusia County.
The Downtown DeLand Historic District is a mixed-use neighborhood near downtown DeLand. A second area called the Garden District is also being developed. DeLand is also home to many growing companies and is diversified economically, all factors which contribute to an interesting and comfortable college town.

There is a very large active adult community in De Land (see link at top left). Zillow reports the median home value was $346,128 in early 2023, which is a 16.4% rise over the past year.
What Is Special about DeLand
The downtown Deland Historic District and the Garden District are both strengths for the community. It has a strong economic base. Stetson University is a big plus. The City is near the beaches of Daytona Beach.

DeLand is in northern Florida about 11 miles west of Daytona Beach. It has a sub-tropical climate which is mild in winter and hot and rainy in winter.
Restaurants & Cultural Scene
For culture DeLand has many offerings. Stetson University has theatre productions as well as classes aimed at older residents. The DeLand Arts Festival from the Museum of the Florida Arts is a very successful annual affair. The Volusia County Library has a lovely building and many programs. The local Sanborn Activities Center also has a lot going on of interest.

Florida Hospital DeLand serves DeLand. Other hospitals are a short drive away in Orlando, Sanford, and Daytona Beach.

DeLand transportation options include airports in Daytona Beach, Orlando/Sanford, and Orlando, all of which are within 45 miles. AMTRAK has a station in DeLand.
