Laguna Woods is home to one of the country's largest active adult communities - Laguna Woods Village - an age-restricted community. The community has a 27 hole golf course and a 9 hole par 3 course. Residents can own a golf cart but must pay a trail fee.  Laguna Woods Village is located on rolling hillsides just minutes from the Laguna Beach coastline in Orange County. The community is comprised of 12,736 dwellings and is considered to be one of the largest of its type on the West Coast.  Laguna Woods Village is home to 16,000 residents averaging 78 years of age. The average age is 78.

Where to Retire in Laguna Woods and Home Prices

Home choices include the high-rise Towers, single-family and multi-family models. Floor-plans offer one, two or three bedrooms. There are several active communities in the town, including Laguna Woods Village. It consists of three housing corporations governed by three separate boards of directors. Also within the City of Laguna Woods are three senior living establishments and commercial businesses.
Zillow shows the median home sale price to be $357,589, in late 2022, although that number also includes homes in the city of Laguna Woods, which tend to be more expensive than in Laguna Woods Village. 

What Is Special about Laguna Woods

Laguna Woods is near the beach in Orange County. There is always something to do and people to meet at Laguna Woods Village. There are almost 100 clubs and a community center. Not to mention golf, tennis, swimming, and just about every other sport that you could think of.

What Is Not Special about Laguna Woods

Like most big active adult communities that require a lot of people to live in harmony, there are many rules and procedures. The absence of any medical or assisted living facilities and commercial establishments is a drawback in our opinion. You might also have to contend with living in a community formerly called Leisure World.

Located in the hills of Orange County, not too far from the beaches.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Residents can choose from 100 Saddleback College Emeritus courses. With over 100 clubs there is always something going on in Laguna Woods Village. There are no commercial activities (except a restaurant) within the Village gates, but many in the town and surrounding area and within walking distance.

Crime

Crime in Laguna Woods is practically nonexistent.

Medical Facilities

There are several assisted living facilities in the City of Laguna Woods and many nursing homes and hospitals very nearby.

Transportation

The Village has a comprehensive free bus system for residents which also covers surrounding shopping centers and medical facilities. The nearest major airport is in Santa Ana about 13 miles away, the closest International airport is in LAX, 50 miles from Laguna Woods.
