What Is Special about Redding

The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay is a dramatic pedestrian span that works as an accurate sundial on the summer solstice.  The Cascade Theatre is a a classic art deco building. Turtle Bay Exploration Park offers a museum and 20 acre garden.  Redding and Shasta County are considerably more affordable than the coastal region, Bay Area, and LA regions of California.

What Is Not Special about Redding

The nearest major airport is in Sacramento approximately 2 hours away. In late July of 2018, the Carr Fire, a wildfire, impacted the Redding area with serious destruction.

Climate and Physical Environment

Redding is located in the northern part of the state above Sacramento. Winter months see 8-9 inches of rain, while summers are quite dry. Average January temperature is in the mid 40's.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

The Cascade Theatre is the local performance venue. Downtown Redding is experiencing a remarkable turnarond with new restaurants and businesses opening each month.  Marketfest is a weekly festival held on Thursdays.

Crime

Redding is a safe community when compared to cities its size.  The crime rate for serious crimes (homicide, rape) is low, while the rate for property related crimes has been on the increase.

Mercy Medical and Shasta Regional serve the area including emergency trauma care.

Transportation

There is a AMTRAK service and a twice daily van shuttle to Sacramento airport.  The Redding airport provides daily service to San Francisco airport.  Interstate 5 provides easy freeway access from Sacramento (about 2 hours driving).
