There are approximately 20 villages offering a variety of lifestyles and housing. Homes range from townhouses and high-rise condos to custom estate living. Most homes are in gated communities featuring beautiful clubhouses with activity directors and an array of amenities. There are also private and public golf course communities, and 55+ active adult communities. A new development is Waterside which offers single family homes, apartments and senior living.

What Is Special about Lakewood Ranch

There are several types of communities and housing for everyone. Lakewood Ranch is a vibrant master-planned community with streets and two-lane roads that are easy to navigate. The development is comprised of 15 communities on 48 square miles with cattle farms, preserves, an athletic center, polo fields, and shopping, and there are many arts and cultural events hosted by the Town Center.

What Is Not Special about Lakewood Ranch

Lakewood Ranch seems to have it all, but surprising enough does not have a library. One is in the planning stage, but may be a few years before it is a reality. There is a library in Frostburg, about 10 miles away which Lakewood Ranch residents are welcome to use. There is no public transportation, but some communities are within walking distance of the town center.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

From the free monthly concerts of "Music on Main" to Celebrity Golf Tournaments to "Grand Ovation at Lakewood Ranch," there's always some special event happening. Whether it's a tailgate party at the Polo Fields, the famous Pug Parade, a special screening at the Lakewood Ranch Cinemas or spending the weekend at the Tour of Homes, you can live in a community that brings fun festivals and interesting events to your doorstep. The Sarasota Players Theater will be relocating here with a performing arts campus in the center of the the new Waterside Place development.

The crime rate here is low.

Lakewood Ranch Medical Center located in the town center offers many types of health care and a 120-bed hospital.

Transportation

There is no public transportation in Lakewood Ranch, but there are many walking trails and sidewalks throughout the development along with miles of bike paths. The Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport is just 12 miles away.
