Many active adults have chosen to move to Plymouth for its location on the ocean and quieter lifestyle. There are many waterfront homes in the area as well as cute old homes within the town. Outside of the town there is a large number of active adult communities that have beautiful settings near the water (see link to Plymouth Active Communities above left). Median home value was $555,355 in late 2022, according to Zillow. There is a very wide choice in types and prices of housing, including active adult communities.

What Is Special about Plymouth

Plymouth is a major tourist destination with much to see and do relative to the landing of the Pilgrims here in 1620;  Provincetown on Cape Cod is just a short ferry ride away, and Boston can be reached by rail;  There is good shopping and many great places to live;  Miles Standish State Forest;  Great Herring Pond is 376 acres; 10 Golf Courses in Plymouth;  Plimouth Plantation;  Great ocean beaches.

Plymouth is not inexpensive. It is also getting crowded.

Climate and Physical Environment

Plymouth is on Cape Cod Bay just above and the west of Cape Cod, 40 miles south of Boston.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

There are a number of museums and historical places to visit in connection with the landing of the pilgrims. Boston is nearby and a cultural beacon. Plimoth Plantation is an indoor-outdoor museum of the English and Native American cultures and the original settlements. It also includes a full-size replica of the Mayflower. Pilgrim Hall Museum is the oldest public museum in the country, which showcases Pilgrim possessions and artifacts. Richard Sparrow House is one of the oldest homes in the nation. The 1749 Court House & Museum is the country's oldest courthouse.

Jordan Hospital located in Plymouth has 150 beds and serves 12 local towns.

Transportation

Plymouth has about every type of transportation facility: a ferry to Cape Cod; airport with service to Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Marthas Vineyard; and light rail service to Boston.
