Golf fans will remember that one of the PGA's favorite tournaments is held annually in Greensboro. The Greater Greensboro Open has been renamed the Wyndham Championship in honor of its new sponsor. The tournament has moved back and forth among several courses, but is now held at the Sedgefield Country Club. There is a large number of courses in Greensboro ranging from courses at resort hotels like the Grandover to the 9 hole track at Gillespie Golf Club. Greensboro is a medium sized city of 250,000 in northern North Carolina. The city is known for it beauty, much of which came from the city's early success as a cotton and merchandising capital. Downtown life has improved with many restaurants, bars, and new projects like the New Bridge Park Park and Elon University Law School. The Aycock and Fisher Park neighborhoods were established in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The Aycock neighborhood features large Queen Anne residences of the turn-of-the-twentieth century, as well as Foursquare, Craftsman, and Colonial Revival styles. Irving Park surrounds the Greensboro Country Club which was loosely modeled after Pinehurst and offers very gracious homes.
