What Is Special about Solomons Island

Its setting as an island on a river and Chesapeake Bay is spectacular.  The Tiki Bar of Solomons attracts unbelievable crowds in season, tens of thousands of them. The Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons is a Smithsonian-affiliated forested sculpture park with first rate pieces of art.  It is great for boaters with harbors and marinas galore.

What Is Not Special about Solomons Island

The town is very small and the area is hard to get to. It can get quite crowded and congested in season.

Climate and Physical Environment

The average January temp is in the 30s and the July temp in the high 70s. It is situated on the banks of the Patuxent River and Cheseapeak Bay in a quiet part of Maryland, south of Annapolis.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

There are several seafood restaurants to choose from. The Tiki Bar of Solomons is the most famous watering hole in the area.  The Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons is a Smithsonian-affiliated forested sculpture park where creations of major sculptors are on exhibit.Most sculptures are on loan from the National Gallery of Art or the Hirshhorn Museum. At the Calvert Marine Museum visitors can climb a former lighthouse listen to occasional famous performer concerts outdoors.

Medstar St. Mary's Hospital in nearby Leonardtown is the closest hospital.

There are no major roadways or public transportation in the area.
