Thousand Island Park in Thousand Island, New York, (near Clayton), is situated along the St. Lawrence River, and was founded in 1875 as a Methodist Campground.  It has thrived as a family retreat with a Chautauqua atmosphere of religious, cultural and recreational activities. Today it continues as a peaceful haven with many summer cottages and single family homes, and with the Tabernacle Community Association offering worship services along with recreational activities, family social events, and lectures and concert series.  The community is also home to the Wellesley Hotel that offers a restaurant and guest rooms, a library, nature trails and a yacht club. The season includes the months of June, July and August.
