Chiefland is 30 miles west of Gainesville towards the Gulf of Mexico in northwest Florida. Winters are mild (but not as warm as southern Florida) and summers hot. The downtown Chief Theatre on East Park Avenue is home to the Suwannee Valley Players, a local group of thespians who put on plays for the enjoyment of the local citizens. The group stages productions four to six time per year, usually for mulitple showings.
