Interesting places to visit nearby are Brookgreen Gardens which is the largest outdoor sculpture garden in the world, and Huntington Beach State Park which offers hiking trails, campsites and a nature center, along with a beautiful beach.  If it's bright lights and neon you're looking for, Myrtle Beach is just a few miles away.
